Test Vehicles from December in Bern
In Bern, the PubliBike service is being expanded and renewed as part of the "Velo Region Bern 2026" initiative. The number of bikes and e-bikes will increase from 1,600 to 2,600. At the same time, the e-bikes will get a new, more powerful drive and a higher-capacity battery.
In December, an initial test fleet will already be available for rental via the new app. Using the new app requires a one-time re-registration, providing your name, email address, and phone number. Existing subscriptions from the current app will be automatically transferred if registration is done with the same email address. From January, more and more vehicles will gradually be available via the new app.
Further information can be found on the Bern page.

Modernization in Ticino Completed
As of November 17, the fully modernized PubliBike Velospot service is available in Ticino. Rides can now be started only with the new app and using the new bikes, e-bikes, and e-scooters.
This step brings PubliBike Velospot closer to a unified, modern solution across Switzerland.

Season’s end in Andermatt
The PubliBike Velospot stations in Andermatt Swiss Alps will remain closed until April 2026.
Since reopening in May 2025, the system recorded:
• 437 rides
• 154 people riding at least once
• 3,964 km travelled in total
That’s roughly the distance from Andermatt to Cairo – all on two wheels!

Winter Operations on St. Peter’s Island
On St. Peter’s Island, the two PubliBike Velospot stations usually in service are now entering full winter shutdown. No stations will remain active during the winter season.

Winter Operations in La Chaux-de-Fonds & Le Locle
With the start of the winter season, the PubliBike Velospot network in La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle is being reduced. 24 stations are going into winter shutdown, while 6 centrally located stations will remain active and serviced.

E-Scooters in Biel/Bienne
Starting now, the first station-based e-scooters from PubliBike Velospot are available in Biel/Bienne! We’re expanding our sharing offer to give you even more flexibility for your rides — whether you’re heading to the train station, home, or across the city.

Grenchen Nord goes green!
At Grenchen Nord station, 10 e-bikes and 5 bikes in the unmistakable BLS design are now ready – visible, practical, and available 24/7.
Thanks to Your BIke at Trainstation, you can rent bikes and e-bikes from CHF 2.50 for 6, 12, or 18 hours.
The best part? The first ride (6 hours) is free! Just enter the code BLSFREE during registration – valid for the first 200 users.
Thanks to BLS, the bikes and e-bikes will now be available for 4 years.

Ticino 3.0: New app, bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters
Starting in September 2025, all bikesharing services in Ticino will be harmonised and modernised. That means: a completely new fleet (e-bikes, bikes and e-scooters) and a new app for the entire canton.

Discontinuation of the PubliBike Velospot Network in Nyon as of July 1, 2025
The PubliBike Velospot network in Nyon will be discontinued as of July 1, 2025. This decision follows the non-renewal of the existing contract with the city.
We regret that we can no longer offer our service to users in this region.
Any prepaid subscriptions will be automatically and proportionally refunded. In some cases, processing may take up to 40 days.
PubliBike Velospot sincerely thanks all users in Nyon and apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the discontinuation of the service.

Tap&Go: Unlock bikes without registration
With Tap&Go, accessing the largest bike-sharing network in Switzerland is easier than ever. Thanks to the SwissPass, no login or registration with PubliBike Velospot is required to rent bikes and e-bikes with the B-Quick tariff – the SwissPass alone is enough.

The new app for bikes, e-bikes & more
Our completely redesigned app makes getting around Switzerland easier than ever. Instead of using two separate systems, you’ll now have a modern app that lets you rent bikes and e-bikes in over 20 cities – and soon even e-scooters or cargo bikes.
What’s new?
- Easier login
- More intuitive subscription management
- SwissPass integration directly in the app
- Faster and more user-friendly rental process
- Helpful notifications with real-time info
- Detailed overview of past rides
- Improved map function
- Filters to help you find the right vehicle
The app is continuously being improved. All basic functions are already available – and many more upgrades are on the way: new login options, an even clearer subscription display, and the integration of additional vehicles such as e-scooters, new e-bikes, bikes and cargo bikes are already on the roadmap.

New annual subscription Frimobil + PubliBike
Starting 1 May 2025, Frimobil, in collaboration with PubliBike, is launching a new combined annual subscription: Frimobil + PubliBike. For just CHF 29 extra on top of the regular Frimobil annual pass, customers receive an integrated offer combining public transport with the use of PubliBike rental bikes in the Fribourg agglomeration.
The goal of this offer is to promote the seamless and year-round combination of public transport and bike sharing. The subscription is available in 2nd class for adults, youths (16-25 years), and seniors (from AHV age). Zone selection remains flexible, as with the regular Frimobil subscription. Access to the bike service is enabled via the PubliBike Velospot app using a personal activation code.
Further information is available at the sales points and online shops of TPF, SBB, and BLS.

La Chaux-de-Fonds + Le Locle
The existing network in La Chaux-de-Fonds is expanding with 10 new stations in Le Locle. A total of 40 new e-bikes are now available. Gradually, at least 22 stations will be built in Le Locle, directly connected to the La Chaux-de-Fonds network. Another step towards more practical, flexible, and sustainable mobility in the region!

New app for Zurich: What’s changing?
At the end of March 2025, all e-bikes in Zurich will be upgraded within a few days. After that, they will only be available through the new app. Mechanical bikes will remain available in the PubliBike app until their later upgrade.
From May 2025, only the new app will be needed in Zurich – it will replace the PubliBike app for e-bikes and bikes. In Bern, Lausanne-Morges, Région de Nyon, and Sottoceneri, the PubliBike app will remain usable.

New Batteries for E-Bikes in Fribourg: More Range, Fewer Issues
Starting in mid-December, the E-Bikes in Fribourg will gradually be equipped with more powerful batteries. These new batteries offer a significantly higher capacity and an integrated display that shows the charge level at the push of a button – a convenient feature that makes usage even easier.
The battery replacement will be done in several stages. The old batteries will be sent back to the workshop in Biel, where all the E-Bikes will be upgraded gradually. A total of about 300 E-Bikes in Fribourg will be affected, with the transition expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2025.
During the transition period, E-Bikes with both new and old batteries will be in use side by side. However, the difference is already noticeable: the new batteries are slightly heavier but much more powerful.

PubliBike goes into cheese production!
Mid-July 2022, PubliBike moved its servers to a new data center in Gais in Appenzell Ausserrhoden: the greenest and most innovative data center in Switzerland. We are delighted and proud of this ecological and technical implementation!
Other data centers use natural electricity or photovoltaic systems, but the data center in Gais has additional advantages.
For short power outages, it uses "flywheels" instead of UPS (uninterruptible power supply) with batteries. In addition, it uses an adiabatic cooling system that sprays water from a rainwater and groundwater system into the outside air circuit. The hot air from the servers and other network devices is not exhausted by roof fans, as is usually the case, but redirected to the annex house, a cheese factory. This warm air is then used to make cheese!

We are going to look into the future together
We are pleased to inform you that we are merging with Intermobility SA. This will make us the largest bike sharing network in Switzerland. For you, this means in 2023 you will benefit from an even larger offer!

The prices change!
PubliBike is introducing a new pricing model for private customers from Wednesday, 29 June 2022. Without these adjustments, the expenses for the maintenance of the high-quality bikes and the constant replacement of the e-bike batteries cannot be guaranteed to cover the costs. By raising the rates, the previously deficit business should be able to cover its expenses in the future.

Some news from Ticino
Lugano-Malcantone and Mendrisiotto-Basso Ceresio are now "Sottoceneri (TI)"
At the end of May we installed the first 13 stations in Mendrisiotto-Basso Ceresio. We are now happy to announce that we have installed almost all of the 45 planned stations. Only the stations in Bissone and Brusino Arsizio remain to be installed in the next few weeks. Fourteen municipalities have been involved in this expansion project. A great step forward in support of the environment and soft mobility.
From now on, the Mendrisiotto-Basso Ceresio network (45 stations), and the Lugano-Malcantone network (55 stations), will be identified under one large Ticino network with 100 stations: Sottoceneri (TI). With a total of 720 bikes (50% e-bikes), this network will be our third largest network in Switzerland, after Bern (210 stations) and Zurich (175 stations).
